Class 4 License Overview
The Class 4 license is a commercial driver's license for professional passenger vehicle operation. It's required for rideshare drivers (Uber, Lyft), taxi operators, ambulance drivers, and those providing transport for people with disabilities.
Class 4 Restricted
Road test in a regular passenger vehicle. Allows:
- Taxis and limousines (up to 10 persons)
- Rideshare vehicles (Uber, Lyft)
- Ambulances
- Accessible transit vehicles
Class 4 Unrestricted
Road test in a bus or larger vehicle. Adds:
- All Restricted privileges
- Buses up to 25 passengers (including driver)
- Larger commercial passenger vehicles
Prerequisites
- Be at least 19 years old
- Hold a full-privilege Class 5 or Class 6 license
- 2+ years of non-learner driving experience
- Pass a medical fitness examination (ICBC form)
- Pass the Class 4 knowledge test
- Have an acceptable driving record
