BC's Graduated Licensing Program
BC's Graduated Licensing Program (GLP) introduces new drivers to increasingly complex conditions through two stages before earning a full Class 5 license.
Class 7L — Learner Stage
Available from age 16. Minimum 12 months (10 with approved training). Must drive with a licensed supervisor (Class 5+, age 25+). Zero BAC, no midnight–5AM driving, 'L' sign required.
Class 7N — Novice Stage
After passing Class 7N road test. Minimum 24 months before Class 5. Zero BAC, no midnight–5AM driving, one passenger limit (first 12 months), 'N' sign required.
Eligibility
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Pass the ICBC Class 7 knowledge test
- Provide proof of identity and BC residency
- Zero blood alcohol content at all times
